The migration verdict

Your new website went live in late August. A migration is the single riskiest event in search, because if the old addresses do not point cleanly at the new ones, years of Google history can disappear overnight.

Yours came through clean. We tested every mapped redirect ourselves rather than taking a checklist's word for it: 14 of 14 pass, every one a single hop to a live page. The domain settles correctly, genuine missing pages return the right code, and the catch-all for the old tour URLs works.

One honest caveat on timing. This verdict rests on four days of data after launch. Everything points the right way, and we will confirm it properly in the September report once a full month has passed.

What August did

198
Clicks from Google search, up 24.5% and the best month since May
4,933
Impressions, up 12.2% and the best since April
14 of 14
Redirects tested and passing, each a single clean hop
5
Commercial searches where you rank number 1 in New Zealand, six days after the cutover
17 of 18
Pages from the content plan now live on the new site
15 → 40
Visits from ChatGPT, in the migration month itself
33
Of 55 measured keywords in Google's top 10, with 13 in the top 3
25 of 55
Tracked searches now showing a Google AI answer (detail below)

Comparing the four days after launch against the matching four days before: clicks per day up 13.5% and impressions per day up 55.1%. The new site is being shown more, not less.

The AEO work survived the rebuild

This was the real risk. All eight of the new answer-focused pages shipped with their planned titles, the wildlife hub is correctly set up so the individual species pages carry the weight, and 17 of the 18 pages in the plan are live. The structure we built the strategy around came through the rebuild intact.

One thing we are watching

Searches for your own brand name show an average position drop after launch. Our read is that this is transitional noise from the cutover, and a live check still puts you at number 1 on the related terms, but we are flagging it rather than waiting to be asked. We will confirm either way in mid September.

Where this goes next

Google now shows an AI answer on 25 of your 55 tracked searches. Nearly half. For a tourism business where people research heavily before booking, that is the shift that matters most, and your ChatGPT referrals more than doubling during the migration month suggests the new content is already being read that way.

And the next step: Notable. We have built our own AI search platform, Notable, and it is live. It comes with a live dashboard including AI visibility tracking, so you can see exactly where you show up in AI answers. Ben would love to walk you through it.
